The City offers a comprehensive benefits package for both positions including:

  • Additional compensation for Training Officer and POST Certification.

  • Longevity Pay

  • Seniority Bridge for Vacation & Longevity accrual

  • $800/year uniform allowance

  • Vacation Leave – Vacation leave is accrued based on length of service, with beginning accrual at 10 hours per month.

  • Sick Leave - 8 hours per month

  • Holidays – Employees receive 12 paid holidays per year accrued at a rate of 8 hours per month. 

  • Health Plan – The City provides a generous allowance for health, dental, vision and life insurance. Health insurance is currently provided through Tri-County Schools Insurance Group. Dental and vision care are provided by the City of Marysville through a self-insured plan.

  • Short/Long term disability and life insurance are provided through Standard Life Insurance.

  • Social Security – The City of Marysville does not participate in Social Security, except for Federal Medicare.

  • Retirement – New PERS Rate effective 1/1/13, 2% at 62 plan. New members pay standard rates for CA. Classic PERS members, the employee pays the 7% employee and 3% employer contributions to Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) 2% at 55 plan.

  • Deferred Compensation – The City offers a voluntary Deferred Compensation Plan.

 

Selection Procedure

The selection process may consist of an application screening, written test, an oral interview, interview by the Chief of Police, or any combination of these to establish an employment list. It will be necessary to pass a background investigation, as well as a medical examination, drug screening, and a psychological evaluation by physicians selected by the City of Marysville. The probationary period for this position is twelve months. Prior to appointment with the City of Marysville, it will be necessary to provide proof of United States citizenship or authorization to work in the United States. Lateral applicants are not required to take a written test.

Records Clerk

Under general direction, the individual selected will maintain the records filing system and/or database used to manage and access electronic and paper records of criminal justice activities, assist in providing accurate and clear information to the public and other departments and may perform other clerical duties including taking photographs, fingerprints and answering telephone inquiries.

Essential Functions:

  • Receive, process and route police records 

  • Use computer-aided keyboard and data entry equipment or manually record information

  • May serve as receptionist providing information to the public; maintain liaison with courts and District Attorney's offices concerning reports

  • Type, proof, index, and file reports of operational activities and other records

  • Prepare periodic operating and statistical reports from accumulated data

  • Attend ongoing training

  • Process subpoenas, citations and report dispositions

  • Receive telephone calls requesting police records

 

Experience and Education

This position requires English language usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar, as well as the ability to learn and apply rules and procedures involved in maintaining police records and files.  Applicants must be able to understand and carry out oral and written direction and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and training may be any combination equivalent to the experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the job. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid California driver’s license, and valid vehicle insurance.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $3,073 - $3,841

Community Service Officer

Under general direction, the individual selected will enforce parking laws, issue parking citations and assist patrol with non-priority calls and respond to non-injury traffic collisions.

Essential Functions:

  • Respond to general inquiries from the public not requiring a sworn officer; take and process crime reports; provide information, assistance and required forms.

  • Perform traffic control duties including initial and follow-up traffic collision investigations, parking enforcement, and hazard removal; direct traffic at special events, emergency or congestion situations; issue citations for vehicle and municipal code violations.

  • Document minor and non-injury incidents; assist in investigation of minor and serious injury collisions; research and recommend citations for non-injury vehicle collisions; enforce vehicle abatement rules and initiate and process vehicle tow orders.

  • Maintain contact with the public; assist in crime prevention, community outreach and public education programs such as neighborhood watch.
